Akkineni Nagarjuna spent his childhood in Chennai and Hyderabad as his father was working in that region during that time. At that time, Telugu films were also made in Chennai which was called Madras. Nagarjuna completed his primary schooling in Hyderabad Public School and later moved to Anna University in Madras to complete his graduation in mechanical engineering. He later went to Michigan to join Eastern Michigan University.
After finishing his education, he came back to Hyderabad and started his career as a hero in Telugu films. As his father Nageshwar Rao was a huge star in Telugu, he got opportunities easily and worked in few unsuccessful films. Nagarjuna made his debut in films as a child artist in his father’s movie Sudigundalu in 1967. He was also part of Velugu Needalu during that period. After that, he focused on his education and later made his debut as hero in Vikram movie in the year 1986. He later acted in other hit films like Majnu which portrayed him as a lover boy.
Interestingly, he got to work with legends like K Raghavendra Rao and Yandamuri Veerendranath in the early stages of his career. It was Geetanjali that put him on national stage as this movie directed by Mani Ratnam won national award.
Nagarjuna got the image of an action hero after this movie and later worked with other hits like Nirnayam and Killer. He also acted in few Hindi films including the remake of Shiva.
